Trauma is an experience of significant distress or discomfort that was unexpected or unwelcomed, (i.e. sexual assault, abuse, accidents, witnessing a crime, etc.)
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is characterized by symptoms of intrusive thoughts, recurrent memories or flashbacks, hypervigilance, sleep disturbances, loss of concentration and memory, diminished interest, and feeling detached.
Most people don’t know how to comfort others after a traumatic experience. They often have good intentions of providing support but usually say something that is upsetting. Your experiences will always be a part of your story and your life but they do not need to define you. We will work together to process your experience and start the healing process at a pace that you find comfortable. Traumatic experiences can be difficult to work through on your own.
